Everything you need to design and export a custom seamless tartan.
Click any of the 8 templates in the left panel. They span traditional tartans, modern looks, houndstooth and buffalo plaid. When you switch templates, your current colours carry across by position — so if you've got a palette you love, you can try it on different patterns.
Click any colour swatch in the right panel to open a colour picker. Every colour is fully editable.
Small (~10 cm), Medium (~15 cm), or Large (~25 cm) — this is the approximate size of one motif on the printed fabric. The pattern still tiles seamlessly at any size; this just controls how large each "check" or motif appears.
2/2 Twill is the authentic tartan weave with diagonal threading. Plain weave gives a flat checkerboard look. Basket weave creates a chunky, woven texture.
The rulers around the preview show the actual print size — toggle between cm and in at the top of the canvas. Use the magnifier buttons (or Ctrl/⌘ + scroll) to zoom in for a closer look at the weave detail. Zoom only affects the on-screen preview — it doesn't change the export.
Use the arrows above the preview, or press Ctrl/⌘ + Z to undo and Ctrl/⌘ + Y to redo. Up to 10 actions are stored.
Click Export PNG (300 dpi). The file you receive is one full seamless tile that will repeat infinitely on the printer's side. No need to worry about fabric width — the printer handles tiling.
Add ?designer=true to the URL to enable designer mode. This unlocks the sett editor at the bottom of the right panel, where you can type a thread-count recipe directly and save new templates.
All patterns are generated mathematically, not from images. This means every export is pixel-perfect, perfectly seamless, and crisp at 300 dpi.
This will reset your changes.
